Washing SpinachSpinach cooking tips: Place bunch of spinach in a large bowl of tepid water, leaving the stems tied together. Shake gently to loosen the dirt, opening the bunch slightly as you shake the spinach. Drain spinach, clean the bowl and add cold water. Wash in cold water twice, draining in between washings. When done washing, shake the spinach gently to remove as much water as you can. Refrigerate, leaving the ends tied together for easier trimming.Comments9/27/2006 3:21:21 PMCathleen said: This is great advice, even with bagged spinach, which people assume is washed already. That's a dangerous assumption!! I have seen vegetable processing plants, and while it is safe to assume that the major filth is removed before packing, I hope that everyone will be mindful that fresh fruits and vegetables are, by nature, prone to contamination by birds and animals. Please be meticulous about washing them before eating to safeguard agains the smaller things, like bacteria.
